Ox-Bow’s first Community Supported Arts Program
July 20, 2014
Ox-Bow’s CSA utilizes the familiar Community Supported Agriculture model, but instead of connecting people with local farmers, we connect you with local artists. As a part of the region’s cultural infrastructure, Ox-Bow’s CSA aims to advance the work of local artists and encourages the engagement of West Michigan residents with the artists in their community. Ox-Bow has commissioned 4 West Michigan artists to participate in this year’s CSA.

A very special thank you to Dave and Judy Geerts for their generosity in underwriting this program that increases opportunities for local artists.

Shifting Landscapes: Selected Works by Michael Pfleghaar
June 10, 2014
Kendall College of Art and Design
The Fed Galleries, Woodbridge N. Ferris Building
17 Pearl St. NW
Grand Rapids, MI 49503
June 19–July 19, 2014
Drawing parallels to regional painters from the past century, Shifting Landscapes presents the medium-bending work of Michael Pfleghaar alongside selections from KCAD’s expansive Gordon Collection. Existing somewhere between representation and abstraction and inspired by modern design, Pfleghaar’s process of deletion, isolation and exaggeration moves his work beyond traditional painting by melding paint, canvas, and utilitarian three-dimensional forms into new physical objects.

The exhibition was conceived as an opportunity to highlight the work of Ox Bow’s summer instructors, thus giving form to the current ideas and approaches that are pervasive throughout Ox-Bow’s campus and studios today. They will share stories of the current Ox-Bow community, e.g. trends, ideas, concepts, and projects that help the viewer understand our contemporary vision and mission. Works in this show will include painting and drawing, glass, ceramics, metals, new media, print media, and more.
Many people think of Ox-Bow in terms of its history in the Saugatuck/Douglas area, but it is also a place where contemporary art thrives, and future cultural developments emerge. Because of Ox-Bow, artists from all over the globe have spent time in the Saugatuck/Douglas area, and think of the time that was spent in this region as a pivotal to their thinking and production.
